Dallas Intellectual Property Law, Entertainment Law, Patents and Trademarks, Mediation and Negotiation
Welcome to the Law Office of Patrick J. Glynn. The primary focus of my practice is to provide quality legal services at a reasonable price. In twenty five years of practicing law I have handled a wide variety of matters for clients, including intellectual property matters. Now, my practice emphasizes intellectual property (IP) primarily patents, trademarks and copyrights.
My practice also evolved into arts and entertainment, representing musical artists and studios in negotiating, transacting and licensing related to producing, recording and publishing music for commercial endeavors, as well as writers and visual artists.
I assist new and established businesses from choosing and forming Limited Liability Companies, Corporations, Limited Partnerships etc., in addition to acquiring their patent and trademark rights before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Protecting intellectual property is a major concern for my clients. I am therefore heavily involved in drafting and negotiating licensing agreements, and litigating trademark and copyright infringement matters.
Copyright is most often the concern among my artist and entertainment clients. Writers and photographers, for example, frequently call upon me when their works have been infringed, especially over the internet. Copyright infringement has proliferated exponentially over the Internet since I wrote a featured articled for the Texas Bar Journal in July, 1997, entitled “Cyber-Copyrights, Internet Provider Liability”.
Individuals often come to me for help in evaluating whether their ideas can be patented. I personally guide them through the patent search and evaluation process before recommending they apply for a patent. Trademark and service mark acquisition and protection are a major concern for clients entering the interstate markets, where early application for a U.S. Registration can be crucial. Trademark and copyright litigation has resulted in favorable settlements on behalf of my clients. Recently, I obtained a substantial settlement for a client in a suit against a major U.S. retailer for infringing a popular sculpture.
Entertainment clients include former band members of LeAnn Rimes, Paul McCartney (“Wings”) and Blood Sweat and Tears. Artists include writers of books and screenplays, photographers, composers, musicians and bands, commercial illustrators and independent film makers.
Affordable consultations are available for prospective clients needing a framework of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law before taking the next step necessary to further their endeavors. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you.
